“Understanding Candida Symptoms”
The multitude of Candida symptoms can make coming to an
accurate diagnosis very challenging
Candida yeast overgrowth is sometimes referred
to as the missing diagnosis. It has been found to be a common
occurrence in a wide scope of disorders. It has been estimated
that as much as 80% of all the American population suffer from
Candida symptoms ranging from moderate to severe.
The
established medical establishment is still not fully acknowledging
Candida as the serious problem it is and the range of Candida
symptoms. For a large part this has to do with how conventional
medicine looks at the nature of disease and how it comes to a
Candida diagnosis.
It is important to understand the true underlying
cause of Candida before you can understand why treating Candida for
itself most often won’t work and may not be the best idea. The
problem lies in the philosophical underpinnings of allopathic or
western medicine.
Candida is the result of suffering from Intestinal
Dysbiosis so Candida symptoms are really the symptoms of Intestinal
Dysbiosis. Treating Candida instead of the underlying intestinal
dis-harmony will only lead to more of the same with all the
frustration of never healing from the debilitating effects of
Pathogenic Candida.
What allopathic medicine does not fully understand is
often too easily dismissed as being psychological in nature. Anyone
dealing with chronic fatigue, heavy limbs,
depression and the myriad of other problems, these
Candida symptoms are very real and create a lot of unnecessary
self-doubt and stress. Knowing that stress itself leads to a
reduced immune system, the psychological impact of Candida only
serve to aggravate the situation rather than help it.
Some of the most commonly reported and documented
Candida symptoms are:
- Fatigue: continual but often more noticeable after
eating, heavy limbs, waking up tired, lack of motivation,
depression, low sex drive, irritability and mood swings,
headaches, migraines, mental fogginess, trouble with concentration
and memory, confusion, dizziness, depression and/or anxiety
without apparent cause, difficulty directing ones actions.
- Gastrointestinal: chronic constipation or diarrhea,
poor digestion, hemorrhoids, abdominal distention, bloating,
cramps, mucus in stool, nausea, gastritis, flatulence, leaky gut,
food allergies
- Genito-urinary: burning and inflamed genital area,
urinary tract infection/inflammation (burning, itching), kidney
infection, Cystitis (inflammation of the bladder with possible
infection), vaginal infections, menstrual difficulties, impotence,
rectal itching or rash, colic
- Immune system: compromised immune system (frequent
colds, flu, difficulty healing wounds), hay fever, mucous
congestion, asthma, bronchitis, sensitive to airborne particles,
allergies
- Skin: athlete's foot, jock itch, skin rash, acne,
psoriasis, ringworm
- Symptoms resistant to all modes of therapy: Patient is
misdiagnosed with hypochondria and dismissed as being neurotic.
Suggested prescriptions may include tranquilizers, Prozac and
psychiatric counseling
- Clinical history of childhood ADD, ADHD, hyperactivity,
skin problems (thrush, diaper rash etc.), tonsillitis, ear
infection (treated with antibiotics), respiratory problems.
- Miscellaneous: craving for carbohydrates, ringing in
the ears (tinnitus), cold extremities
It is important to realize that the above listed
symptoms are identical or overlap with the symptoms of other
degenerative diseases including but not limited to fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis..
For anybody not suffering from a combination of any of
these symptoms it may be heard to believe. Knowing there are others
out there suffering and struggling with the same problems can be a
real blessing in just knowing you are not alone.
One of the reasons why it is so hard to come to a Candida diagnosis is because so many of Candida symptoms are invisible and are
subsequently dismissed as psychosomatic. In other words it's all
in your head and has no real underlying physical and clearly
identifiable cause to it.
The other reason why Candida is so hard to
identify as the problem is because it is capable of producing
well over 200 Candida symptoms. This makes it extremely hard for
anyone with this condition to diagnose accurately and understand
what is wrong with them.
In medical journals and other scientific publications
plenty has been written about how antibiotics destroy friendly
bacteria and can cause Candidiasis. In spite of all what has
been written and the scientific evidence, the medical profession
continues to boldly prescribe them with no apparent concern for
their side effects.
Yeast infections can be the cause of so many
different, and on the surface, unrelated Candida symptoms. Not
everybody suffering from Intestinal Dysbiosis will have the same set
of Candida symptoms as another. This makes coming to an accurate
Candida diagnosis a very confusing and frustrating experience.
Just trying to go by symptoms alone can easily lead to a misdiagnosis of
treating a major symptom and miss the true underlying cause which in
all cases is the same, namely Intestinal Dysbiosis. The result is
that too many people hop on a merry go round without ever really
understanding what is wrong with them, spending thousands of dollars
on doctor visits and cures without ever really getting any better.
There is a standard and universally accepted
questionnaire developed by William G. Crook, M.D. which turned out
to be a real eye opener for me. It was designed to determine the
level of yeast in your body. You will find this questionnaire in the
back of this book along with another relative simple test you can do
yourself in the morning which will cost you nothing.
It is slowly being recognized that yeast and fungal
overgrowth are the common root behind a host of disorders
disorders and lead to the multitude of yeast related Candida
symptoms.
More and more people are being diagnosed with
degenerative diseases such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Hypo and hyper-thyroidism, Lupus,
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Leaky Gut
Syndrome, Chronic sinusitis, Macular Degeneration,
Crohn's Disease, adrenal dysfunction, Atopic eczema
and other skin disorders, Celiac Disease, Psoriasis,
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Leaky Gut
Syndrome, ADD and ADHD, Rosacea, Psoriasis,
Meniere's Disease, Autism and a host of others
diseases, just to name a few of them.
Intestinal Dysbiosis is an underlying condition in
many of these cases but is often not diagnosed, misdiagnosed or
simply dismissed as nonexistent altogether. The reason for this lies
in that it requires a shift from the conventional allopathic
paradigm.
Conventional medicine is concerned with identifying direct
relationships between illness manifestations (symptoms) and a well
defined cause. Intestinal Dysbiosis does not really fit within the
allopathic paradigm. Doctors consequently have a hard time relating
the multitude of Candida symptoms to Intestinal Dysbiosis as the
root cause.
